DOT-VI to hold Reg’l Educational Tour Summit

In order to gather tourism industry players and stakeholders involved in educational tours, the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI will be spearheading the Regional Educational Tour Summit (RETS) in Days Hotel, Iloilo City on November 9, 2017.

The said summit aims to recognize the importance of field trips and educational tours in providing a meaningful learning experience to students beyond the four walls of the classroom. Through these activities, students are also exposed to new and updated tourism practices that broaden their learning opportunities.

Moreover, the RETS also targets to strengthen and create a more harmonious relationship between and among the national government agencies concerned, local government units, academe, transportation sector, travel and tour agencies and other industry stakeholders.

“Field trips and educational tours play an important part in teaching the students. It exposes them to the actual happenings outside the four walls of the classroom. It lets them see the real world beyond the concepts and theories they learn in school,” said DOT-VI director Helen Catalbas.

“Aside from that, field trips also let students experience and visit the different destinations in the region and help it promote these destinations to other people,” she added.

This summit will be highlighted with the symbolic signing of the Pledge of Commitment for Quality Field Trip and Educational Tours by major stakeholders of the tourism industry.
