DOT VI launches 6th CineKasimanwa in Capiz



The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Province of Capiz, Roxas City LGU and Western Visayas Filmmakers Network (WVFN) will launch the 6th CineKasimanwa; Western Visayas Film Festival and the 3rd year of DOT Western Visayas Film Grant Program at Robinsons Place, Roxas City, Capiz on December 8-10, 2018.
Fifteen films are selected by the jury for the Western Visayas Film Grants Competition. The Western Visayas Film Grant Program is being funded by the DOT Region 6 to help talented filmmakers from Western Visayas for the production of their short films showing regional culture and tourist destinations in the region.

This year's competing films for DOT VI Film Grants are, namely: Abyan by Joey Decolongon; Ang Babae sa Bahura by Kyle Fermindoza; Baylo by Ramjun Valasote; Dumuluong by Lodrigo Basco Jr.; Gitara kag Kita by Lyle Sidney Gayoba;Guna by Bob Perez; Hila(u)was by Dennis Hubag; Jameson by Kurt Soberano; Pagkadamuhal by Aldrich Rosano; Pinili by Fatima Villarta & Gian Genoveza; Ribuk by Carlo Navarrete; Soul Searching by L.A. Borres; Sound Bites by Julius De La Peña; Tangis by Kenneth De La Cruz; Umalagi by Matthew Piodeña.

"The Department of Tourism Region VI extends its full support for the CineKasimanwa; Western Visayas Film Festival for it is a great platform in promoting the promising destinations in Western Visayas. It is also one way in discovering talented Western Visayas filmmakers and to showcase their work to a bigger audience. With so much delight, I am looking forward to watch the best of the best films made by these filmmakers", DOT VI Regional Director Atty. Helen Catalbas said.

Opening ceremonies on December 8, 2018 will start at 2:00 PM, where Iloy by Gary Tabanera will be screened as an opening film. Competing films will be shown by sets starting on the opening day until 4:00 PM of December 10, 2018 and will be followed by the Closing Ceremonies and Awards Night at 6:00 PM.

CineKasimanwa will also present the Student + Youth Film Competition. Preliminary Jury for the said category selected 9 films to compete which include Amiel, Modern Albularyo by Jayson Amiel Cineta of Central Philippine University, Amor by Cymark Garcisto of University of San Agustin, and Hagas sa Katalagman by Rovic Lopez of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Arevalo Campus and Dolorosa by James Patrick Jenn Jumawan of University of San Agustin. Also counted for competition are Hutik sang Paminsaron by Edgar John Zaragosa of West Visayas State University, Joseph, Joseph by Gio Enzo Lebourg of Central Philippine University, Tingkaw by Rovic Lopez of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Arevalo Campus, Tres Mil by Noelen Marie Deocampo of University of San Agustin and Katungdanan by Richard Jeroui Salvadico and Arlie Sweet Sumagaysay from the Out of School Youth submission.
