DOT VI readies for Holy Week travellers

To ensure that Western Visayas is more fun and safe during the Lenten Season, the Department of Tourism Region VI will establish information/assistance desks in airports, ports and tourism sites.

DOT VI Regional Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas said that this effort is in line with the DOT's mandate to promote the Philippines as a tourist destination while ensuring that tourists will have access to essential information and will be provided needed assistance for their travel.

On April 18-21, 2019, the information/assistance desks in Iloilo City will be in Ortiz and Parola Wharf, the main entry point going to the Guimaras Province. There will be also one at the Iloilo International Airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo on April 17-21, 2019, except on April 19, 2019 when there are no scheduled flights.

In Aklan, the desk will be located at the Kalibo International Airport and Caticlan Jetty Port while in Antique, it will be situated in front of Antique Provincial Capitol.

DOT VI staff will also provide assistance in the Province of Capiz especially at the Agtalin Shrine in the town of Pilar and Our Lady of Lourdes in Roxas City. In Negros Occidental, there will be an information desk at the Bacolod-Silay Airport.

Lastly, in the Province of Guimaras, information desks will be put up in Jordan Wharf, Buenavista Wharf and in the Balaan Bukid, Barangay Hoskyn, Jordan.

Besides the information/assistance desks, DOT personnel will also be assigned to conduct mobile monitoring of pilgrimage sites and tourism destinations in the region.

“DOT VI is expecting the influx of tourists during the Lenten Season that is the reason why we are also in full force to provide assistance. The safety of tourists, both local and foreign, is the priority of the Department of Tourism Region VI because we want them to have a smooth and enjoyable travel experience here in Western Visayas,” Director Catalbas said.
