The Department of Tourism Region VI in partnership with Western Visayas Filmmakers Network will launch the 6th Cinekasimanwa; Western Visayas Film Festival and 3rd edition of the Western Visayas Film Grant on July 6, 2018 at the University of the Philippines Visayas Cinematheque.
New rules, regulations/mechanics, entry forms, submission requirements of the Western Visayas Film Grants 2018 will be discussed and a symbolic transfer of responsibilities between the present organizers and the Province of Capiz are among the highlights of the launching.
DOT Region VI Regional Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas is looking forward to discover and meet new talented Ilonggo filmmakers to compete this year. She said the two batches of film grantees have exceeded expectations.
“Cinekasimanwa: Western Visayas Film Festival has the full support of DOT Region VI as a powerful tool in the promotion and development of the best and emerging destinations in the region while providing opportunities to the grassroots-level. The first and second batch of grantees has fulfilled their task to produce a story that creates deep connection between the viewer and the places being showcased as local setting or backdrop of the films”, Director Catalbas said.
Director Catalbas is also happy to note that the Province of Capiz, as one of the strongest advocate of arts, culture and heritage in Western Visayas, will host the Western Visayas Film Festival this year.
“Capiz has been an active partner of DOT Region VI in all its endeavors including the Cinekasimanwa. Capiznons have always been proud of their culture and heritage as depicted in their works of art. This is Capiz’s moment. We will support it the same way we have during the first five Cinekasimanwa Film Festival”, Director Catalbas explained.
Cinekasimanwa 6 is scheduled on December 1-7, 2018 in Capiz and December 8-10, 2018 in Iloilo City.
