DOT VI praises LGUs for Fiestas in the City’s success

Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI lauded the Local Government Units for their support for the 17th Fiestas in the City celebration at SM City, Iloilo on May 25-31, 2019.

DOT VI Regional Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas said that this year's celebration is the grandest so far. This is because of the active participation of the LGUs through their Governors, Mayors and Tourism Officers.

Fiestas in the City is the biggest and the grandest annual gathering of Western Visayan culture and tradition highlighting the best local products, food and tourist destinations of the six provinces and two highly-urbanized cities of Western Visayas.

The Province of Capiz showcased their Capiztahan Festival while the Province of Antique highlighted the Komedya sang Barbaza kag Tibiao. Aklan had its Diez Y Nueve Martires Presentation. The local fashion designers were given opportunity to showcase their skills through the Santacruzan Ciudad de Iloilo where beauty queens wore elegant gowns. The Province of Guimaras, once again offered their sweet mangoes through the Manggahan Festival which featured among others the Mango Eat All You Can at Fiestas in the City. The Iloilo Province presented the Indigenous People while Iloilo City showcased the Sinamba sa Regatta and Dinagyang Festival. Negros Occidental and Bacolod City featured their Babaylan Festival, Masskara Festival and parade of delicacies by the towns of Negros Occidental.

"The 17th Fiestas in the City is appropriate and in line with the recently launched Malling is More Fun in the Philippines campaign of the Department of Tourism in partnership with SM Supermalls. This campaign aims to position the country as a shopping destination of the locals and tourists. The yearly theme of Fiestas in the City is Experience Western Visayas First", Catalbas said.
