Globe Telecom has partnered with the Luneta Seafarers Welfare Foundation (LUSWELF) in celebrating the National Maritime Week 2017 where it launched the new Globe Seafarer SIM.

During the week-long activity, Globe introduced the Globe Seafarer SIM which offers special rates from over 50 maritime destinations worldwide. Seafarers can call for as low as P30 per minute and send a message at P10 per text to Globe and TM numbers back home. The SIM is preactivated with international roaming and is valid for one year.

“We are proud that almost a third of seafarers globally are Filipinos and we acknowledge their achievements and contributions. Our goal is to provide communication solutions that supports the emotional needs of our seafarers who are longing for home and their families,” said Mike Frausing, senior adviser, Globe International Business Group.

Globe is known for enabling communication among overseas Filipinos where keeping in touch with families in the Philippines prove challenging due to high roaming charges. The Globe SIM cards for OFWs and Seafarers were designed to address this concern. Aside from affordable costs, Globe top-up is also easier to do via several options such as prepaid call cards, GCash, Share-a-Load, and networks of retailers across the country.

The Globe Seafarer SIM is available at the Globe Airport Booths located at the departure area of all Ninoy Aquino International Airports as well as in Clark, Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo airports. It is also available at the Globe booth in the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and LUSWELF offices in Manila.

Meanwhile, Globe shared LUSWELF’s advocacy in looking after the welfare of over 400,000 Filipino seafarers. “Seafaring is a demanding job as experienced by hundreds of thousands of Filipinos who are part of the international maritime community. Globe Telecom’s support of the National Maritime Week is our way of saluting Filipino seafarers who make great sacrifices away from home in order to play a central role in international trade,” Frausing said.

“Globe is a valuable partner for us, supporting our programs and the needs of our seafarers,” shared Don Ramon A. Bagatsing, Chair and CEO of LUSWELF. “They are also very engaged with the maritime industry. Their latest offering, the Globe Seafarer SIM, will address the communication needs of our seafarers abroad with an accessible, affordable and easy-to-use product.”

LUSWELF’s office in Manila has been a convergence point for seafarers since the 1980s and a setting for manning agencies to promote their companies to job applicants. It was also the venue of the National Maritime Week festivities which celebrate the service and sacrifices of Filipino seafarers who have chosen life at sea to give their families a better future.

The weeklong event was sponsored by Globe through its International Business Group. A Boodle Fight was held on Sept. 27 and a Karaoke Night on Sept. 29.
